| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: Rating : - Decent Netbook, Horrible Warranty Repair Experience I purchased my Netbook (GNET41601XB) in July new-in-box from an Ebay vendor (and unfortunately for me, not Amazon) enjoyed it greatly for the few months I used it. That all came to an end in February of 2010 when a "framework Error" occurred and prevented me from opening most applications. The netbook also no longer recognized the WiFi or soundboard, rendering the netbook useless for my work-related needs. I contacted Digital Gadgets and was promptly sent a postage paid return slip. However, after sending the unit in for the warranty repair, I became concerned as Digital Gadgets would no longer return my emails (and later my phone calls as the calls are directed to a voice mail system; no live person ever answers despite being made during "business hours"). This was February and now being the beginning of May and a dozen emails and another dozen voice mails later, I can only presume the unit has been essentially stolen. As Digital Gadgets doesn't return my (polite and professional) emails or voice mails, I am quite certain I know who the culprits are.
All in all, the Sylvania Magni is a useful netbook, but if you ever need repair regardless of any existing manufacturers warranty, take it to a local repair shop or you could be in the same boat.
In fairness, if I DO receive communication from Digital Gadgets or better yet, my netbook (repaired or not), I will edit this review accordingly. Until then, this is my review of the Sylvania GNET41601XB Magni G netbook and those companies that "support" it.
Edited on 05/14/10: Well, I received this netbook back after 3 months of waiting. Actually, I think it's a different unit as my original one had a rubber piece fall off the bottom and this unit still has that piece. Of course, that's fine with me. The technician that called informed me that the person I was trying to contact was no longer working with them, though you would think his workload would have been transferred to someone else within a reasonable amount of time. At least the unit I have now works and has been put back into use. Unfortunately, during the extensive wait, I had to purchase a Gateway netbook (that my wife now uses).
Again, the Sylvania G netbook is a decent product but with dubious warranty work. Opt for a local repair shop if you need work done. + See Full Customer Review | |
